The Best Soul and Funk Audioblogs #2

music This is my second post on Soul and Funk Audioblogs. The first post can be found here.

My Favourite Sound-2 is a audioblog that is maintained by four contributors who are into funk, disco and other groovy tunes. They do not post their mp3s on their own blog. When you click a download link you are directed to Media Fire, a freefile hosting company where you can download the files.

My Favourite Sound-2

I really like their disclaimer, it is honest and clear why these guys are running this blog.

Here, people aren’t “stealing”. they’re learning.

1) MP3s are posted for review purposes only. (For A Limited Time Only)
If you are the artist & want them removed, then tell me & I will.
If You Like An Artist Please Support The Music.

2) MP3s Are Posted For A Limited Time
Then Are Deleted.
And Not Re-Uploaded

3) Anonymous or ”No Profile View” Comments are not accepted.

4) After 24hs from the download please delete it.

5) Indesiderate visitors have the IP Address blocked.

Update. New post in the best soul and funk audioblogs series has just been added here.

Mania Gent Clearance Sale Date

music

There is a new message on the Music Mania site saying that the shop will re-open again on December 7, 2007 at 12 hr (CET).

mania gent reopens

The stock from the shops in Brussel and Kortrijk are also in Gent now, so there is a massive amount of records and cd’s to choose from.

There are also some restrictions you have to keep in mind.

  • You can’t pay with a bank or VISA card, but there are cash machines nearby.
  • You can’t buy more than one copy of a title

The Clearout Sale starts with a discount of 50% on all cd’s, vinyl and dvd’s.

After a couple of weeks the discount will increase even more.

The Mania team expects a lot of custumers the first few days, so you might have to wait a while at the pay-desk.

Parliament Funkadelic Clips You Have To See

musicWhile working on a previous post I stumbled upon two clips of Parliament Funkadelic which are awesome -meaning great!- My first encounter with Parliament was in 1975 when the Chocolate City album was released. A year later the album Mothership Connection came out and I was totally hooked. I had to have all the records of Parliament, Funkadelic and all the offshoots of the Clinton empire.

The link above is the first part (almost 10 minutes) and if like you want to see part two check the link here.

The Best Soul and Funk Audioblogs #1

music Call me old-fashioned, but I am not such a great fan of mp3 files. In my opinion the sound is not good enough.

But I do make exceptions when I sit behind my computer and visit some sites where you can learn something and can discover hidden gems.

What follows is the first of list of sides I often visit. So if you are into Soul and Funk pay these sites a visit and don’t blame me if it wastes several hours of your precious time!

soulsides

Soul Sides is the weblog from Oliver Wang, who started in 2000, originally as a record review site. In 2004 he began to add audio files to his blog. Wang loves his funk, jazz and soul music and he knows a lot about hip-hop too.
He usually works like this. Wang takes a classic (or obscure) original and publishes it as an mp3. Then he adds snippets of two or more hiphop tracks in which the classic (or obscure) number is sampled in, so you can compare the results.

He also writes enthusiasticly about new reissues and compilations he likes. The mp3 files are available for a limited period, so you have to visit his site regularly.

Update. New posts in the best soul and funk audioblogs series has just been added here and here.
